When you think of Our Lady, what do you think of?
Maybe you think of her as mother and turn to her in prayer and in times of distress. Maybe you think of her as a guide and pray a rosary for clarity. Along with those great things, it’s essential we don’t forget that she is Queen as well. The Church honor’s Our Lady’s Queenship every year on August 22nd.
Mary’s foundation as queen is rooted in her motherhood. St. John Damascene explains, “When she became Mother of the Creator, she truly became Queen of every creature.”
Because she is both Queen and Mother, her heart remains with her children, who are entrusted to her care and leadership.
Mary deserves this highest honor for her fiat so that God could become man. If God found her worthy to be the Mother of Jesus, surely we find her deserving of the title, Queen.
Mary, our Queen and Mother, will always to bring us closer to her Son. Her patience and persistence to bring her children back to God is unmatched.
A disciple of St. Anselm wrote, “ Mary is the Queen of all things because she restores each to its original dignity through the grace which she merited.”
What area of your life needs to be restored? Pray the novena with us as we lift up our intentions to Mary, our Queen.
Novena Prayers:
Mary Immaculate Queen, look down upon this poor, distressed and suffering world. Thou knowest our misery and our weakness. O thou who art our Mother, saving us in the hour of peril, have compassion on us in these days of great and heavy trial.
Jesus has given thee entire power over all humanity; He has confided to thee the treasures of His grace, and through thee He wills to grant us pardon and mercy. In these hours of anguish, therefore, thy children come to thee as their only hope.
We recognize thy universal royalty and ardently desire thy triumph. We need a Mother and a Mother’s Heart. Be for us the luminous dawn which dissipates our darkness and points out the way to life. Be thou the everflowing Source from which we draw courage, confidence, and love, the bond uniting all men and the Sign of peace. Amen.
Mary Immaculate Queen, triumph and reign!
