Can America Be Restored to What It Once Was?

No matter where one goes today, the conversation often in a matter of minutes among friends will soon go to some question like, “Did you hear what Trump did this morning?” or “Do you believe this happened yesterday?” If it doesn’t get to those type of questions quickly, it is because someone is around people they don’t know and choose to keep the peace, and stay on safe subjects until their audience is understood. But, just about everyone has an opinion on just about everything.

What is really being said is that as a country we have shifted to extremes from what was usually a casual conversation about the Red Sox beating the Yankees, the Bruins beating the Rangers, some mundane news, to now potentially explosive rhetoric no matter the setting. Part of that political dialogue is whether America can be restored to what it once was as a shining multi-faceted diamond now being seen from a distance. At the heart of the matter is the epicenter of the fight — can America be restored to what it once was, or is it too late? Is too much water over the dam to revert back to what made America tick for generations, or have we shifted to a new place where restoration is not possible any longer? Historically, the jury has voted.

The founders, and early framers of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, were some of the brightest minds to ever inhabit the earth. Their infused wisdom and knowledge came directly from Almighty God with this new land called America. The early writers and founders had lightning in their brains. The experiment as a philosophy and an ideal for self-governance was based upon an understanding of natural law, scripture study, and knowledge of history. There also was an acute awareness of what man is capable of being when human nature is left without a system of checks and balances, and without a belief in God and the Ten Commandments. The United States had three primary foundations in its early formation of documents: Greek Logic, Roman Law, and Christian Principles (Scripture).

The framers were clear it was a belief in God and the tenets of Scripture that made America work. We’ll look at just a few of the founder’s thinking:

Benjamin Rush a signer of the Declaration of Independence was considered one of the brightest minds of his time as an essayist, educator, a theologian of his day, doctor, historian and an early founder of public education for the masses said, “The only foundation for a useful education in a republic is to be laid in religion. Without this there can be no virtue, and without virtue there can be no liberty, and liberty is the object and life of all republican governments… Without religion, I believe learning does much mischief to the morals and principles of mankind.”

Benjamin Franklin has often been misunderstood by historians.   Some were unaware his diplomatic art was for the success of the Revolution, albeit he is considered a rascal by many. Needing to draw the French on the side of the youthful colonies for victory, Franklin knew his clients were the French aristocrats, and he had to win them over. Although not religious in a formal or ritualistic sense, Franklin said as an elder statesman at the Constitutional Convention,

In the beginning of the contest with Britain, when we were sensible of danger, we had daily prayers in this room for Divine protection.   Our prayers, sir, were heard, and they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a superintending Providence in our favor… And have we now forgotten this powerful Friend. Or do we imagine we no longer need His assistance? I have lived, sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this. I also believe without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in the political building no better than the builders of Babel; we shall be divided by our little partial interests; our projects will be confounded; and we ourselves shall become a reproach and a byword down to future ages. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter, from this unfortunate instance despair of establishing government by human wisdom and leave it to chance, war, or conquest. I therefore to beg leave henceforth, prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven and its blessings on our deliberation be held in this assembly every morning before we proceed to business.”

In Noah Webster’s 1790 essay, On the Education of Youth in America, he wrote,

“Every child in America should be acquainted with his own country. He should read books that furnish him with ideas that will be useful to him in life and practice. As soon as he opens his lips, he should rehearse the history of his own country; he should lisp the praise of liberty, and of those illustrious heroes and statesmen, who have wrought a revolution in her favor.   A selection of essays, respecting the settlement and geography of America; the history of the late revolution and of the most remarkable characters and events that distinguished it; a compendium of the principles of the federal and provincial governments, should be the principal schoolbook in the United States. These are understanding objects to every man; they call home the minds of youth and fix them upon the interests of their own country, and they assist in forming attachments to it, as well in enlarging the understanding.”

With an ideology of the New World Order for a One World Government and a One World Religion, by a radical group of practical atheists, this form of previous thought, governance, and sovereign nationhood is nearly extinct today in the public square. There is an intense battle to restore what has been lost, but it is a time that has passed. It has been a long time since Civics was taught in public schools.

The ideal of the nation state is an old world idea that has to be driven from education to achieve the goals of a cabal of men and governments hell bent on the destruction of the United States. As the 900-pound gorilla in the room, foreign nations must reduce the vote and authority of the United States in the United Nations General Assembly equal to a communist government anywhere in the world. America and the Catholic Church must be destroyed for world government.

Since post World War II, the United States has become balkanized, and more rapidly in the last 25 years. With 50 states, we have a heavy population of Latin Americans in the south and southwest, hard core blue states like the pacific northwest, northeast, and the darkest of all blue states, California. California is a hopeless godless welfare state that is drowning in its own mindless depraved thinking. California is rapidly becoming communist. Soon they will attempt legally to ban the Bible claiming it is hate speech. Those who fight it will be litigating for their constitutional rights.   As a result, people are now feeing California seeing the writing on the wall. New York and other blue states will follow once California bans the Bible.

Neatly tucked inside some of those blue states there is a politically pure welfare mentality with broken systems with highly leveraged fiscal irresponsibility in every area. This goes all the way to financially strapped pension funds and state balance sheets into the billions of dollars per state. It is virtually impossible to see Americans today trying to pull the wagon in the same direction for the betterment of the national interest due to such disparate ideologies from so many different factions. The old adage of united we stand, and divided we fall is an accurate one.

America as a unified nation is over. Do you give up the fight? No. Never. Ever. But, the forces of hell are nearing a culmination of evil never seen before. We don’t call it the iron horse anymore (trains), the Model T is long ago, we have jet travel not ocean liners to cross the seas, Tesla’s telegraph is now with a cell phone to anywhere in the world, we don’t use typewriters anymore, we no longer use a stagecoach for the United States Mail service, we use cars and planes, not horses for travel, and on and on. Change is the normal cycle of history. Anything in excess soon becomes its opposite.

Likewise, our political realities have to realistically change if we are to live in quiet enjoyment with our faith. Civilizations come and go. We are presently in a great trial of transition and transformation.   Heaven has told us so.

The American Empire is over, but the country of America will still exist. Greece brought the world a new way of thinking based on philosophy, civil government, and sailing. Rome had its long dominant period with its mighty ruthless sword, England sailed the seas for commodities, Spain its armada finding the world wasn’t flat, France conquering under the sun kings through Napoleon, Persian vastness, as empires came and went. These countries still exist, however, they are just not empires as they were in ages past.

The world can only be saved conforming to God’s laws, statutes, and commands.   Obedience to His commands brings civility, order, peace, and prosperity to a nation. Otherwise it descends into chaos. Faith is central for the survival and sustenance of a nation. That is the conclusion of history of why nations rise and fall.

As Jonah showed us walking through Nineveh in sackcloth and ashes preaching repentance, it is possible to move the heart of God. With all that is said above, yes, everything is possible with God. However, there must be repentance first.

Jesus, I Trust in You
