44 Herods of Today

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious.  But it cannot survive treason from within.  An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly.  But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.  For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies in the hearts of all men.  He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist.  A murderer is less to fear.”  – Cicero 106 BC to 43BC

On February 25, 2019, the United States Senate voted on a piece of legislation that puts the country on a par with the most heinous transgressors of moral and scriptural law in the history of the world.  There is a strong argument that the United States is worse than all of previous morally offending empires, because we are a free people who vote legislators into office with free will in a constitutional republic.  That statement is not a debate, as many would rightfully argue individual rights have been stripped through social engineering of the masses.  In previous generations and empires, it was largely a totally illiterate class of people under a king or some sovereign leader, inhibiting rights to its citizenry, thus a true despot held the throne, precluding the concept of a free election. Votes do matter today, albeit one could question the legitimacy of the process in many instances.

On that cold winter night at the U.S. Capitol, 44 United States Senators voted against a procedural bill called the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which would punish any doctor who fails to provide medical care after a child is born alive after a botched abortion. The bill was voted down 53-44 with three Democrats abstaining.  Senate Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) had an agenda to let the constituents of every state know where their senators stood on the issue of life.  This was after the comments of Virginia Governor Ralph Northam (D-VA), and his now famous radio interview that infanticide after birth was permissible.  Again, the vote was 44 people (all Democrats) of the highest elected office (other than President) in the land voted for infanticide.  Rome under the brutes and the likes of Nero and Caligula has nothing on the state of the Democratic U.S. Senators, and millions of people like them.  You need to think about that vote and let it sink in to understand the spiritually bankrupt state of the country—and emotionally comprehend the moral slide over the last several generations.

To stand against the killing of the innocent is paramount, because if a person gets that wrong, they don’t get anything else right that matters.  The hedge of God’s protection is due to obeying His laws — and for some time, the USA has been outside that boundary. We know a playing field by its boundaries.  The lack of fruit now in our culture is seen nightly on the news.  The policies of extreme abortion under the Democrats and the Obama Administration have become normalized in the courts, and mainstream in the culture, and the Democrats presently are a party that has little resemblance to human decency.

If one wants to read a single chapter of Scripture that explains the blessing and the cursing of a nation, read Chapter 28 of Deuteronomy.  The “deutero” means the law.  When we have leaders of the nation sitting in U.S. Senate seats voting as the Democratic 44, it is time to realize we are in a new place of radical barbaric criminal insanity, akin to Rome prior to its fall.  To not be fully aware of this, you are putting you and your family in a dangerous place in the coming years.  The assault on Christian values is daily and it has been a gradual creep.  California Assemblyman Jessie Gabriel recently introduced bill AB 624 making it mandatory that every Student ID in the state to have the phone number for Planned Parenthood for all students ages 12-24.  If one looks at the trajectory of the vice coming from California over the last several generations, don’t bet it won’t pass at some point.  We are now dealing with very darkened intellects.

Something that has always confused me is the lack of passion from many believers to proclaim the truth.  It is the nonbeliever singing off key, not the believer.  Yet, often there is fear to speak out when truth, goodness, and virtue are on their side.  Often believers want to be “the church of nice” as we decay from within, even though they may not have the foresight to see it clearly.  A believer has history, human nature, Scripture, theology, philosophy, and common sense on their side.  The unbeliever leaves a trail of chaos, deceit, corruption, and confusion around them.  Their thinking is nothing but a mass of contradictions.  The believer will give in self donation, while the unbeliever often leaves nothing but failed agendas, because their plans are not under the Lordship of heaven.  Their plans are built on shifting sands rather than a firm foundation.

Poet W. B. Yeats speaks of this in his poem The Second Coming saying,

the best lack all conviction
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the center cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity…”

The falcon cannot hear the falconer” is the cry of the ages.  We are in this predicament today because many believers have remained silent when they should have proclaimed truth.  They are afraid of being marginalized from a peer group for being viewed as excessively radical if they do speak up. Well……44 U.S Senators voting for infanticide is radical, yet there has not been much of a great outcry from the hierarchy across the land.  W.B. Yeats articulated the emotional constitution of “the church of nice” and their lack of passion.  This was a near constant theme of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen from the 1950’s until his death.

Author Flannery O’Connor in Mystery and Manners, also spoke about what she calls “tenderness” that could also be called sentimentality or softness, or the church of nice. It is clear where a lack of discipline and fortitude leads us.  A more modern word for sappy sentimentality could be snowflakes, buttercups, or cupcakes, with the present generation offended by truth that has endured for millennia.  This is resulting from the general lack of awareness what man is capable of when deprived of the ease of living and creature comforts — something deficit spending by government has enabled the generations of Americans to enjoy since World War II to possess with no consequence for indulgence.  As Leo Tolstoy once said, “Man is what he is when stripped of his finery.”

O’Connor writes: If other ages felt less, they saw more, even though they saw with the blind, prophetical, unsentimental eye of acceptance, which is to say, of faith.  In the absence of this faith now, we govern by tenderness.  It is a tenderness which long cut off from the person of Christ, is wrapped in theory.  When tenderness is detached from the source of tenderness its logical outcome is terror.  It ends in forced-labor camps and in the fumes of the gas chamber.

Words and policy have a life span.  Starting with the birth control pill in the late 1960’s, we have evolved to a perverted culture.  This just didn’t happen overnight.  Lax moral standards have allowed us to appease the base nature of man.  Now, with the U.S. Supreme Court assuring legal abortion on demand, homosexuals having rights not even thought possible years ago, and transgender generally becoming normalized, the next step in the progression of sin is the acceptance of pedophilia as a right.  If infanticide doesn’t change your view of America, the question must be asked, what will it take to for you to speak up, and be active turning around the mess we find ourselves in?  Relentlessly shaving a point off your golf handicap seems to be a mindless endeavor when the city is on fire, and the salvation of the next generation is at stake.

John the Baptist spoke truth to power when he confronted King Herod for adultery with his brother’s wife.  Jesus said about John, “He was the greatest man ever born of woman.”  Yes, speaking the truth may cost you, but at least this point it won’t cost you your head.  It may happen in the future if the present trend continues — as your silence is consent.

JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU
