Join us as we pray a Novena to Our Lady of Lourdes, beginning on February 2 and concluding February 10.
Our Lady, who appeared in many visions to young Saint Bernadette Soubirous, proclaimed to “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Bernadette, who was poor and sickly, decried the woman as “dressed in a white robe, girded at the waist with a blue ribbon. She wore upon her head a white veil which gave just a glimpse of hair. Her feet were bare but covered by the last folds of her robe and a yellow rose was upon each of them. She held on her right arm a rosary of white beads with a chain of gold shining like the two roses on her feet.”
Our Lady also instructed Bernadette to dig in the ground, where a spring of miraculous water appeared. She told Bernadette to ‘tell the priests that people should come here in procession and that a chapel should be built on the site.”
To this very day, many pilgrims still flock to Lourdes to bathe in the spring, pray in the beautiful chapel, take parts in the processions, and visit the grotto where Our Lady spoke to Bernadette. Countless miracles – both spiritual and physical- have been attributed to this holy site.
We all know someone (perhaps it is even ourselves) who needs miraculous healing- whether it be spiritual or physical. Ask Our Lady to intercede for this intention today– bring your petitions to her and let her wrap you in her mantle. She is the Immaculate Conception- the most holy, loving, pure Mother. Ave Maria!
Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us!
Novena to Our Lady of Lourdes:
Be blessed, O most pure Virgin, for having vouchsafed to manifest your shining with life, sweetness and beauty, in the Grotto of Lourdes, saying to the child, St. Bernadette: ‘I am the Immaculate Conception.’ A thousand times we congratulate you upon your Immaculate Conception. And now, O ever Immaculate Virgin, Mother of mercy, Health of the sick, Refuge of sinners, Comforter of the afflicted, you know our wants, our troubles, our sufferings: deign to cast upon us a look of mercy.
By appearing in the Grotto of Lourdes, you were pleased to make it a privileged sanctuary, whence you dispense your favors, and already many have obtained the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and physical. We come, therefore, with the most unbounded confidence to implore your maternal intercession. Obtain for us, O loving Mother, the granting of our request.
(state your request)
Through gratitude for your favors, we will endeavor to imitate your virtues, that we may one day share your glory.
Our Lady of Lourdes, Mother of Christ, you had influence with your divine son while upon earth. You have the same influence now in Heaven. Pray for us; obtain for us from your Divine Son our special requests if it be the Divine Will. Amen.
Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us.
Saint Bernadette, pray for us.
